IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

What is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses broad-spectrum light to target various skin conditions and imperfections. It is commonly used for hair removal, skin rejuvenation, and the treatment of certain skin concerns.

During an IPL treatment, a handheld device emits a range of light wavelengths onto the skin's surface. The light is absorbed by specific targets in the skin, such as melanin (responsible for pigmentation) or hemoglobin (found in blood vessels). The absorbed light energy is then converted into heat, which helps destroy the targeted cells or structures.

Here are some common applications of IPL:

  1. Hair removal: IPL can effectively reduce unwanted hair by targeting and damaging the hair follicles. The heat generated by the light destroys the follicles, leading to hair reduction or permanent hair removal over multiple sessions.
  2. Skin rejuvenation: IPL can improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin, age spots, freckles, and uneven skin tone. The light energy targets melanin and pigmented areas, breaking them down and stimulating the production of new collagen. This process can result in smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
  3. Vascular conditions: IPL can help treat certain vascular conditions, such as spider veins, rosacea, and broken blood vessels. The light energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood vessels, causing them to coagulate and eventually fade away.
