Sclerotherapy

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used  treat to blood vessels or blood vessel malformations. Commonly called varicose veins or spider veins.

The procedure is effective in treating these veins and is considered the Gold Standard.  It involves injecting a solution directly into the vein.

The final results will improve symptoms such as aching, swelling, burning and cramping.

What are its Benefits?

Some of the benefits of this procedure are as follows:

Effective treatment: Sclerotherapy is considered one of the most effective treatments for varicose veins and spider veins. It can significantly improve the appearance of the affected veins and reduce associated symptoms such as pain, swelling, and itching.

Minimally invasive: Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require surgery. It is performed in an outpatient setting, and most patients can resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment.

Non-surgical alternative: Sclerotherapy provides a non-surgical alternative to more invasive procedures such as vein stripping or laser ablation. It is generally less expensive, has fewer complications, and requires little to no downtime.

Quick procedure: The actual sclerotherapy procedure typically takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the extent of the vein problem. It can treat multiple veins in a single session, making it a time-efficient option for patients.

Cosmetic improvement: Sclerotherapy can significantly improve the appearance of varicose veins and spider veins, which can be a source of self-consciousness or embarrassment for many people. The treatment can help boost self-esteem and confidence.

Relief from symptoms: Varicose veins and spider veins can cause symptoms such as pain, aching, heaviness, and cramping. Sclerotherapy can alleviate these symptoms by reducing the size and pressure of the affected veins.

Customizable treatment: Sclerotherapy can be tailored to the individual patient's needs. The concentration and type of sclerosing agent can be adjusted based on the size, location, and severity of the veins being treated, ensuring optimal results.

High success rate: Sclerotherapy has a high success rate, particularly for small and medium-sized varicose veins and spider veins. Multiple sessions may be required for larger veins or for the treatment of underlying venous insufficiency.

Minimal side effects: While sclerotherapy is generally safe, some patients may experience mild side effects such as bruising, swelling, or temporary skin discoloration at the injection sites. These side effects usually resolve on their own within a few weeks.

Long-lasting results: Sclerotherapy offers long-lasting results. Once the treated veins have collapsed and faded, they are unlikely to reappear. However, new veins may develop over time, necessitating additional treatment if desired.
